Getting the Professional Tutor badge
Get your teaching credential verified.
The Professional Tutor badge shows students that our team has checked your teaching credential. It appears on your profile and your tutor card.
Professional Tutors stand out to students and may be able to charge higher prices.
What counts
- A recognized teaching license, or
- A language teaching certificate, like CELTA or TEFL, with 120+ hours of training from a government-approved institution. It can be for any language.
Exam-prep and business-only courses don't count. You'll also need a clear scan or photo of your credential as a PDF, JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB.
Apply
- Go to Teach > Settings > Education and Certifications.
- Select Verify my credential.
- Enter your credential's details, upload the file, then review and submit.
After you submit
A member of our team checks your credential manually. This takes up to 3 business days, and we'll notify you when it's done. While it's under review, you can withdraw it: select Edit next to it, then Delete this credential.
- Approved: the badge shows on your profile and tutor card right away, and we delete your file.
- Needs fixing: you'll see what to update and our feedback. Select Edit, make the changes and resubmit.
Only our verification team can see your file.
More than one credential
Select Add certificate to send another credential. Each one is checked on its own and shows as Under review, Needs fixing or Verified.
You keep the badge as long as at least one of your credentials is verified. If you delete your only verified credential, the badge is removed from your profile.
