What is a Professional Tutor?

What the Professional Tutor badge means.

A Professional Tutor is a tutor whose teaching credential has been checked by our team. You'll see a blue Professional Tutor badge on their profile and tutor card.

What the badge means

To get the badge, a tutor sends us one of these, and our team checks it manually:

  • A recognized teaching license, or
  • A language teaching certificate, like CELTA or TEFL, with 120+ hours of training from a government-approved institution.

Exam-prep and business-only courses don't count.

Prices

Tutors set their own prices, and Professional Tutors may charge more than other tutors because of their training and experience.

Do I need a Professional Tutor?

Not necessarily. Many great tutors don't have a formal teaching credential. Read reviews, watch intro videos and take a trial lesson to find the tutor who suits you best.
